Carlo Gaetano Gaisruck (7 August 1769 – 19 November 1846) was the archbishop of Milan from 1816 to 1846.[1]
Gaisruck was born in Austria.[2] He was elected the canon of the Cathedral chapter of Passau in September 1788.[3] In 1800 he was ordained a Catholic priest. The next year he became the auxiliary bishop of Passau, thus gaining the title of Bishop of Derbe.[2] He received a doctorate in liberal arts and philosophy from the University of Salzburg.[3]
In 1818 he took possession of the archdiocese of Milan . On 27 September 1824 he was created a Cardinal. In the 1846 conclave, he was to present the veto of the Emperor of Austria against the election of Cardinal Mastai-Ferretti, but arrived too late; the latter had already been elected and taken the name Pius IX. Cardinal Gaisruck died on 19 November 1846.
